Eddie Guerrero will be missed

Eddie Guerrero, born Eduardo Gory Guerrero Llanes (October 9, 1967 – November 13, 2005) was an American professional wrestler of Hispanic extraction. Born into a legendary wrestling family, Eddie managed to maintain the Guerrero family legacy and had a distinguished career through the 1990s in Extreme Championship Wrestling, World Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment of the United States.

His in-ring character was that of a crafty, resourceful wrestler who would do anything to win a match. Despite being a heel for much of his career, he became extremely popular because of his charisma and the fact that he was able to invent himself as a professional wrestler and athlete.

Throughout his career, Eddie encountered various substance abuse problems outside of wrestling, including alcoholism and an addiction to pain killers. His problems outside of the ring were sometimes integrated into his professional wrestling storylines. Despite all these issues, Eddie Guerrero managed to be extremely popular, winning numerous titles during his career, including the WWE Championship. He became a born again Christian in 2002.

On November 13, 2005, Eddie was found dead in his hotel room in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the Marriott City Center Hotel by his nephew, Chavo, also a wrestler himself. An autopsy revealed that he died as a result of acute heart failure, caused by undiagnosed heart disease and strain placed on his heart from overworking himself. Although Eddie had not used illicit drugs or alcohol for over four years, his past excesses could have contributed to his heart failure.

The news of his death came as a sudden shock to many people around the world. Many respected him as an individual who was not afraid to share how he struggled to conquer his "personal demons", as well as inspired by all the fantastic performances which he had so passionately engaged in, so much so that he never fails to entertain. He will be greatly missed.

Viva la Raza, Latino Heat!
