When will I Be Famous?

Everyone dreams of being superstar... at least at one point in our lives. And there are many who would go one step further to make their dreams a reality.

In fact, nowadays it is more chances to get your shot at the limelight with the many talent search shows like Channel U's Project Superstar that ended recently in controversy. Apparently the judges were biased the eventual winner, Kelvin Tan Wei Lian, who is visually-impaired and much preferred the other finalist, Kelly Poon. However, it was the votes from the fans that had prevailed at the end of the day. In a way, the outcome of this recent contest has inspired the ordinary man on the streets not to give up on his dreams.

Ever since the Singapore Idol fever (See Inaugural Idol), the media industry is cashing in on the lucrative notion of creating celebrities. There is also Anugerah which is on the Malay channel, Suria as well as an upcoming Star Idol on Channel 8.

Yet amidst the glitter of fame and fortune, does one really know what encompasses being a celebrity? Veteran Mediacorp actor, Xie Shaoguang, who has won numerous awards including Special Achievement Award, Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes and Best Actor at the Star Awards 2003, is finally ending his 15-year show business career for a humble farm life. You can say he has practically been there, done that.
