Running Time

I know the importance of looking after one's own health and have been trying real hard to get myself to exercise. However, work really thins you out and by the time I get home, I'm just too poofed to do anything.

Some people have told me that it's all in the mind and all I have to do is to motivate myself to get down on it. I'm not the only person in this world who needs to work, so I decided to see how the rest of world get around it. Many modern executives, including some of my female friends, have signed up with new age gyms for their fitness regimes, so I decided to take up an offer from California Fitness some time ago.

Basically with such gyms, you pay exorbitant membership fees to make use of their facilities that are usually located in the town areas. In fact I was hoping that the considerable amount of money I had invested would make me determined to keep fit. I even contemplated in hiring a personal fitness instructor but couldn't fix a schedule.

Work eventually got the better of me and I didn't even have time to train for my annual IPPT (Individual Physical Proficiency Test) required for reservists (after compulsory National Service for Singaporean males).

In the end, I was enrolled into MFCC, where some call it Manchester Football Country Club - a place where you get paid to train and the instructors help you pass the IPPT. Okay, MFCC actually stands for Maju Fitness and Conditioning Centre, and for failure to meet the requirements of my recent IPPT, I was required to attend RT (Remedial Training) at MFCC.

Although some may view RT negatively, the compulsory sessions per week is really beneficial and my company has to let me off early to attend them. In a way it had solved the commitment issue and I could actually get started and stuck on a fitness regime. Best of all, I'm being paid my military vocation salary based on the time spent during RT!

Forget about new age gyms, I'm now looking forward to RT.

i never knew that singapore had a requirement that people had to exercise - to the point where companies are required to let you off early in order to go to the gym.

i've always sworn against exercise. my idea of exercise is running for the train daily.

sadly for me, i've also been duped by a fellow colleague lately to take up yoga. i actually find it relaxing - a chance to stretch all my muscles. i also tried pilates one time, but found it too similar to low impact aerobics to make me want to attend.

i'm such a lazy person. i think if it wasn't for the fact that yoga didn't require me to move around energetically, i'd ditch it altogether.

anyhow, that's my two cents for the day.

Well, keeping fit is an obligation for most Singaporean males, because after 2 years of compulsory conscription (NS), we are kept in the reservists status.

Annually we are required to meet the requirements of the fitness test(IPPT), failing which we will be required to attend Remedial Training (RT).

Sometimes laziness gets to me as well... but looks like RT will be perking me up at least for this period in time... Ha!
