My friend whom I had not met for quite some time was commenting on the recent hot topic of the Ministerial Forum during which Jamie Han used the controversial 'despot' word.
Jamie was expressing his view that the local government was exercising too much control and progress of the nation would be hindered if her people's viewpoints are not considered seriously. Minister Mentor Lee rebutted his argument in a seemingly threatening manner.
Yet my friend said this display of power was not unexpected at all and no cause for raising of eyebrows. In fact, it would be an utter waste of time attending such a forum since what you would probably get are diplomatic answers, especially from such a veteran politician. Basically if you were to look at it carefully, the answers are just information the government wants you to know.
The younger Singaporeans still hope to have their voices heard and perhaps we do need more people like Jamie to risk mockery and speak up for the majority who are silently suppressed.
