To clear some doubts that people may have about my recent entry, I wish to declare first that I have no affiliations whatsoever with Wendy (the author of the blog mentioned). I have only added the link in my blog to facilitate people who wants to read a blog that is popular amongst the local people to see it.
Those who have visited the blog have feedback to me that they found the blog to be somewhat crude and wondered why it is so successful. I believe the correct word to use would be provocative. I remember hearing from some place that sex sells. Some people find her style of writing appealing because it breaks away from the norms and carries a tinge of naughty. Oscar Wilde once said: Disobedience, in the eyes of any one who has read history, is man's original virtue. It is through disobedience that progress has been made, through disobedience and through rebellion.
There will always be people who like what you do and then the others. It is impossible to please everyone in this world. For every lover, there will be the haters and vice versa.

Hi again,
just jumping on the bandwagon.
I didn't feel that the site was really crude. I have read a lot more explicit and cruder blogs.
as it was... well, i was a bit at a loss as to see where the popularity stems from, although she is a pretty girl...
not to say that people will only go to the site to check out her latest pictures. to be honest, i don't know what i was expecting to find when i was reading the site, but overall, to me it just felt a bit sugary and shallow. i also noticed that she tends to overexaggerate at times blatantly making extreme statements/story telling before 'spilling the beans' so to speak (take a look at the page that she points out got the highest hits - 3,000, for May 29th).
so, in that sense, i can understand how that may make her popular - i.e. we're all suckers in some form to sensationalism. just take a look at the success of gossip magazines...
one more thing - not to be cynical, but i am curious. i did go through a bit of her site, and if i read it correctly, she works as an intern for a singaporean newspaper/magazine? ..is it the same paper (strait times) that did the article highlighting the fact that her site was popular? ..doesn't that also say something, or at least put things into a little more perspective? Desperate editor looking for news stories. journalist mentions blogs. intern pipes up, 'well i have a blog. want to take a look? i get quite a few hits btw..'
*shrug*
just a thought.
in terms of writing style, i don't really have anything against the way that she writes. in my mind blogging is for whatever reason you choose. so the style of writing doesn't necessarily have to be in essay format. and what with online chatting, academic/professional prose isn't necessarily a requirement.
Hi Butterfly:
I totally agree that we are all suckers for sensationalism at times. In fact, I think that most of us who are too busy with life sometimes get off by reading magazines.
I too have nothing against her style of writing and believe strongly too that there should not be a fixed format for blogging. Blogging in some ways is meant for your free expression.
Wendy has earned her calling as a journalist to be. She is an intern for Today, which is a separate newspaper from the Straits Times. She is currently also working on a book with a publisher.
Of course, it will be wonderful if many people read your blog but letting it get to your head may let you lose your true purpose of blogging and eventually your enjoyment.
Happy blogging to all!
