It has been a decade since the 9/11 disaster where the twin towers of World Trade Center in New York City were destroyed by terrorist hijacking of American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 on September 11, 2001. Since then, security measures around the world have been stepped up.
The aviation industry is well known for the high standards it maintains, be it in terms of security or especially safety. Aircraft-related safety incidents can have disastrous effects and right from the design of the aircraft, safety has always been been a big consideration. In an article published by Reuters (Jun 30, 2009), Human factors emerge as trend in air crashes, 2009 emerged as a 10 year high for air crashes and human factors like fatigue, complex flight systems, inconsistent training and regulation were the likely main causes. Yet in the modern era where there is increasing pressure on aviation companies to reduce costs to stay competitive, the question is would safety and even security be compromised?
