Charity should begin at home

A friend was almost in disbelief to find out that there are very poor people in Singapore as well. I guess it is easier to identify the poor from less privileged countries because they are visible. However, it is harder to notice the poor among us at home in affluent Singapore. They may be the lonely, the old, the sick and the ones needing love right in our own backyard.

Upon completing this post, another thought came to my mind. Love should really begin at home, and I do literally mean home. How is that one can be kind to strangers, doing all manner of charitable works, when those closest to one are neglected or not given the love they deserve? We should start by loving our family well, and that includes spending time with them. Also, don't neglect and appreciate those close friends who have stuck thick and thin with you.
