Mass Rapid Mayhem

Former NTUC Income Chief Executive, Tan Kin Lian is probably right when he concluded that the public transport is the issue of greatest concern to the public after conducting a survey (See link to post here. Most Singaporeans use the public transport to get to school, work and generally to get around the island. I decided to conduct my own "survey" and over the past 10 days, the following were overheard while taking the train:

"Oh my, lucky we managed to squeeze onto the train if not we'll be late for school!", a secondary school girl telling her schoolmate, after just barely being able to board the MRT train in the morning rush hour.

"Hey boy, get on the train now! The next train is going to be just as crowded as well!" a mother trying to get her 10-year old son to board an already crowded train.

"Ha ha! No use looking at the display, the time is never accurate. It may show 7 minutes but actually it's more like 9 to 10 minutes", a guy jeering his friend who was glancing at the information display panel along the train platform.

"I can't understand why they (MRT) can't just increase the frequency of the trains!" a very frustrated office lady complaining to a fellow colleague.

"Look at that! No one is standing behind the yellow line." a polytechnic student telling his friend. His friend responded, "You go stand behind and see if you can get on the next train."

"My journey is so long but it's simply so hard to get a seat. Setting off early does not help at all", a middle-aged lady telling a friend.

There is much more that I've heard but these are some of the common grouses. Maybe it's just as a fellow colleague concludes, "Good thing I'm not the transport minister, if not I wouldn't be able to live with the fact that I caused so many people to be miserable."
