Happy Valentine's!

It seems funny that this year so many of my peers are suggesting to boycott Valentine's Day. Perhaps many of them who are matured in age have felt that the novelty of the idea of doing something special on this day has gradually worn off over the years. It could also be that the 'surprise' element is gone as partners become expectant of something special to happen.

Anyway commercialisation of this day has greatly inflated prices, so much so that having a meal or buying flowers and other stuff of affection cost easily 2 to 3 times more than a normal day. Many shun this day to avoid paying "Valentine's Tax". My peers would much rather spend this money on other special days like anniversaries.

Though the day originated from Saint Valentine who showed his love for God, it has gradually evolved into a day for couples to show their affection. Based on tradition, there is practically nothing taboo per se in not celebrating this day. Yet who wouldn't like to be shown a little love?

Sure, many of my peers could choose to boycott this day for various reasons but it certainly won't hurt to say something simple like, "I love you!". Here's wishing all a Happy Valentine's!
