What started out as the popular television talent hunt show American Idol has seeped into other countries like Singapore and later leading to the first ever Asian Idol.
Last evening, Singapore Idol Hady Mirza took the honour of becoming the first ever Asian Idol after defeating 5 other idol winners in the region from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam. To ensure fairness, the panel consisted of judges from the 6 participating nations and in order to neutralise the numerical supremacy of big countries like India and Indonesia, SMS votes were not valid unless the sender picks 2 singers.
Congratulations, Hady! You've done Singapore proud!
