Black Friday

Today is Black Friday in the United States of America. It is the day after Thanksgiving, where it is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season and supposedly one of the busiest retail shopping day of the year.

Black Friday has been traced back to the 1970s and was originally so named because of the heavy traffic on that day, as the beginning of the period in which retailers are in the black (common accounting practices would use red ink to show negative amounts and black ink to show positive amounts and thus black would signify profits).

Be it Black Friday or not, in Singapore, shoppers are already gathering in hordes to do their Christmas shopping, which reminds me that I've got to get mine done soon as well!
