Neighbourly Nation

If some of you who visit my blog regularly were wondering how the updating of my blog may seem a little haphazard, it was because I had been busy sorting out my stuff in anticipation for the year end. I had misplaced some of the papers on which I had written some ideas on and would upload whatever I manage to find whenever I find it. Another reason was I was out of the country.

Over the weekend I had taken a short trip across the Causeway connecting two nations, Singapore and Malaysia. It is relatively convenient to travel to Johor Bahru, Malaysia via bus and before long I had arrived there with a friend. My friend and I explored a fair bit, and rounded off the trip with a nice meal near the outskirts of the town area. Once in a while it is relaxing to soak into a new environment and take your mind off things.

While we were there, we had mingled with the common folk, seemingly blending into their people. Truth be told, the differences between Singaporeans and Malaysians are subtle. The way we speak is similar as both nations have about the same mixture of races. The environment and cultures we were brought up in are similar. When it comes to appearances, there is almost no distinction in the way we look. There are numerous similarities between people from the two nations and perhaps the only difference is that we come under different flags.

The busy Causeway stands testimony to the close relations that both nations share and my friend and I were almost caught in a major traffic jam on the way back to Singapore. Overall it was a pleasant trip to friendly neighbour nation.
