Scared Silly

I have friends who simply love horror shows and cannot wait to scare themselves senseless in the next Japanese or Korean thriller that arrives in the theatres. Apparently they enjoy the rush of adrenaline from the shocking creepy scenes. Yet after watching quite a number of such shows, most of the time such shocks are only due to the creative use of sound effects.

Many Japanese, Korean and even Thai horror flicks centre about haunting ghosts with ghastly supernatural powers. Usually the ghosts are undead that are seeking revenge or settling some unfinished business. Are the undead really that frightening? I have read true accounts of people who actually claim that it is those alive that are scary.

It is the people that are alive and kicking that commit all kinds of horrible perversions. The world we live in is not only filled with serial killers, rapists, terrorists, but even in our lives we have to contend with cunning people who will backstab you at the next opportunity and even evil people who can't wait to harm you. Just as there are many nice people who may be your friends now, who knows some of them may just turn against you in future? Yet this is no cause to be paranoid, it is just that we should really take other people's advice to be cautious in life.

I do not wish to elaborate all the grisly atrocities that the living can commit because it can be very distasteful. Anyway I am sure many of you are already aware of what I am talking about. Having witnessed all these scary stuff, who needs a horror show?
