I was handed a free booklet of sorts when I was heading for a shopping mall. Upon closer inspection, I realised it was Christian comic, telling the story of Tom Skinner and an invitation to receive Christ. I decided to check it out on the Internet and indeed Tom was a Christian messenger. Usually I would have chucked useless pamphlets I received in the nearest trash bin I could find, but somehow the booklet was still in my pocket when I was home. It just felt inappropriate to throw it away.
Religion is fundamental in any civilisation. Although there exists many religions, from Islam to Buddhism, the core essence in any religion is a set of code of ethics. Almost all humans believe in a higher power of some kind. Belief as defined in the dictionary is the feeling that something is true or real, with or without knowing its existence. It was the belief and faith of the Wright brothers that inspired the first manned flight. Belief and faith are inherent in our human nature and religion in our society.
Even people in the same religion would tend to perceive religion differently. Religion is something personal. When you believe in something, it becomes your driving force. Yet everyone should be entitled to their own beliefs.
I have met people who are very aggressive when preaching about a religion, and even some who segregate others (in Pride and Prejudice, I have already discussed the issue of discrimination). It is such people who do not realise the true nature of religion or much so their own religion. Most of the orthodox religions bear good intentions and advocate making peace with all people, irregardless of their religions. Any deviation and it could be misinterpretation.
It does not matter what your religion or beliefs are, as long as you bear good faith. For your information, I have very good friends who are from different religions.
