My friends have been complaining to me how bad the job market still is albeit the economy pick up. Things are improving but much too slow for their liking. Those employed haggle over tough working conditions while those still looking for jobs have almost reached a point of total despair. There just seems to be a lot of unhappiness swirling around.
One of the most frequent laments is that employers are looking for people with job experience and most of them are unwilling to hire fresh graduates. How will fresh graduates get their experience then? It just sounds like one of those vicious cycles where you just get trapped in.
So what exactly is this experience all about? I think that Oscar Wilde put it aptly as: Experience is the name everyone gives to his mistakes. Experience is just a nicer way of putting it. Perhaps after knowing this my friends would feel better about themselves. However this still does not solve the problem of how employers think. For that, I guess the onus is on you to convince them (the employers) that you are no less qualified.
It is definitely a difficult task but heck, no one ever said it is going to be easy. I mean despite all this, batches and batches of graduates still pull through in the end. Sometimes it is just a matter of persistence. Nevertheless, I hope my friends don't despair as it would only make your miserable life more miserable.
