Voting is Secret

One of the biggest unfounded fears that Singaporeans have is that your vote can be traced. Having voted in past elections, I still remember that the ballot paper had a serial number that was checked against my identity card number at the polling station. Yet the truth is that the serial number forms part of the process to account for the total number of votes and this method is also used in other parts of the world. Below is video presentation from Maruah:

Voting is compulsory and secret. Abstaining from voting will result in your name being removed from the register and thereby losing your chance to vote in future. Your vote is meant to be secret and the only way for people to know how you have voted is none other than through your own telling other people.

Every vote counts. Think carefully before you vote and on polling day, make the choice that you believe in. After that there is no need to share with others how you have voted. Let the final results speak for themselves as you would have already done your part as a citizen.
