Whenever someone asks me what I think about modern day technology and to sum it up in one word, I would tell them it's got to be buttons. Simple and probably usually overlooked, the humble button is my buzzword for modern technology.
I would normally get a momentary weird blank stare till I begin explaining my rationale. Look around you and you'll see that modern day devices are all about buttons. Your computers and mobile phones have loads of buttons that do all kinds of stuff. Even everyday household devices like the washing machine, ovens and even the refrigerator have buttons to tell it what to do. Practically all digital and electronic devices are governed by these little things called buttons.
Some may joke that the things on clothes are also called buttons! Well my answer to that is a resounding yes as well. As cavemen evolved to human beings, so did their fashion sense and they realised that by having buttons on clothes it brought them convenience. Thus, buttons equate to convenience since early times!
If you really stop to think for a while, buttons represent the future as well. As modern life and the related devices advance into the future, one thing comes to the product designer's mind, "Can I create a button for it?" Won't it be great if everything we did came down to pressing the correct button for it? Humans are generally looking for ways to make life convenient and if they could create a click-of-the-button solution, hey why not? If there was a button to press that could get you from point A to point B, just like that, won't that be great? Or how about just hitting a button and food would be served, won't that be cool? The possibilities are endless.
Now are you convinced that buttons represent technology?
