Sim Kee Boon

The former Head of Civil Service and Chairman of Keppel Corporation, Sim Kee Boon, died on 9 November 2007 at the age of 78 from complications of stomach cancer which he has been battling for 15 years.

Mr Sim is one of Singapore's most well-known and respected public figures, having served in many top positions in the public and private sectors. From 1979 till 1984, he was appointed the Head of Civil Service. Subsequently, he became the Chairman of Keppel Corporation and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). He also served as the Permanent Secretary in the then Ministry of Communications from June 1975 to April 1984. His other positions include member of the Temasek Advisory Panel and Temasek Trust, as well as the Chairman of the Singapore Council of Presidential Advisors.

Mr Sim was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the Malaysia Medal in 1963 and in 1991, he received the Distinguished Service Order.

Mr Sim was a pioneering leader in the development of Changi Airport. It was through his vision and leadership that Singapore owes a transport system and an airport worthy of international standing. His contribution to our nation is invaluable.
