Misty Morning on April Fool's

It was a very misty morning and as I looked out to the hill just adjacent to where I live, all I could see was a silky silhouettte of the surroundings. It was as if I was drifting amongst the clouds as the morning sun strained through the mist creating no more than a slight orange glow. It's no joke that today the first of April or April Fool's Day.

The custom of playing practical jokes on April Fool's Day is widespread but of uncertain origins. When I was much younger, I objected vehemently against such pranks, thinking that it was a childish thing to do and also fearing the embarrassment it brought. On a day like April Fool's, the wise thing to do was to avoid anything that smelled vaguely like a joke.

However as I age, I become more receptive to this relatively harmless gesture of fun. Most of the time the pranks are carried out to make you look silly. At the end of the day, getting a red face doesn't hurt a thing and is able to bring peals of laughter to those around you. Nowadays even if I know I'm walking straight into a trap, I still go right ahead and play along in the name of good fun.

If life was so straight and serious, then it would be a boring life without joy. In life we have to learn to deal with humiliation because whether we like it or not, everyone plays the fool some time.
